Uniform
The school endeavours to ensure that our uniform is as gender neutral as possible.
School Uniform
-
Black or grey skirt/skort/shorts/ pinafore or trousers
-
White Polo shirt (Reception – Year 2)
-
White cotton blouse/shirt and school tie (Year 3 – Year 6)
-
Hunstanton Primary logoed navy-blue school jumper or cardigan
-
Blue/white gingham summer dress, grey or black tailored shorts in warm weather
-
Plain black shoes – including plain black trainers, non-heeled sturdy boots (no uggs). Please note: sandals, heeled or open-toed footwear are not safe for school. Until children can tie shoe-laces, velcro shoes are recommended.
When your child joins the school, they are provided with a free book bag and baseball cap.
PE Kit
On PE days the children should come to school in their kit.
Whilst it is our preference that pupils have the items with the school logo as it helps identify our children when we are on trips, however it is not essential. Please ensure all items of clothing are plain unless using the school logo, no sports branding or football tops please.
-
Plain white polo shirt (with or without the school logo)
-
Black or navy jogging bottoms, shorts, leggings (plain, non-patterned, with no or little brand marking ie. without 3 stripes down the side). Please note that shorts should be no shorter than mid-thigh.
-
Trainers that will keep the pupils’ feet suitably dry. No studs are allowed.
-
Hunstanton Primary logoed hooded sweatshirt.
-
All earrings need to be removed for PE and if this is not possible, they need to be covered with tape.
Swimming
Appropriate clothing should be worn during these sessions with a one-piece swimsuit for girls and shorts/trunks for boys. Pupils will also need a swimming hat. Pupils may also wear a rash vest and googles.
Leavers’ Hoodies
Within the autumn term, the school and PTA will jointly fund and provide ‘leaver hoodies’ for our Year 6 pupils, which can be used instead of a branded PE hoody on PE days, thereby removing the need to purchase further logoed items towards the end of the pupil’s time at the school. However, we do not allow these to be outside of PE days until after the children have finished their SATs exams in May.
Adverse weather
During hot weather conditions, it is recommended that pupils wear:
-
Sun cream (children must be able to apply this themselves and it must be labelled)
-
A hat is highly recommended on warm days (this is provided when your child joins the school)
In hot conditions, KS2 pupils are not expected to wear their school tie. We expect all children to arrive at school in their ties, and the decision will be made by the class teacher.
During cold weather, it is highly recommended that pupils wear:
-
A waterproof coat
-
Scarves
-
Gloves
-
Hats
-
Additional layers under their uniform are accepted (as long as they are not visible)
We also recommend that pupils avoid wearing shorts and instead wear trousers or skirts/pinafore dresses with tights during colder weather.
*PLEASE ENSURE ALL UNIFORM IS LABELLED* All pupils’ clothing and footwear must be clearly labelled with their name. Clothing and footwear are the responsibility of the pupil and not the school. If a child goes home in another child’s clothing by accident, for example, their jumper, parents/carers should send the clothing not belonging to them back into school to their child’s class teacher. Any lost clothing will be taken to the lost property box. All lost property is retained for a term and is donated to the schools’ Swap Shop if not collected within this time.
Jewellery
It is hazardous to wear jewellery in school. The only jewellery that may be worn is:
-
Small stud earrings (no other piercings are permitted)
-
A watch (no Smart watches that are capable of connecting to the internet or can take pictures)
Please note, for Health and Safety reasons, all earrings need to be removed for PE and if this is not possible, they need to be covered with tape. This is in line with the Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity guidance
Hair
We expect all hair that is long enough, to be tied back to prevent the spread of head lice and due to health and safety risks. Hair dye manufacturers state that their products are not recommended for under 16s and therefore, we would recommend against the use of any such products with primary-aged children.
Make - Up
Make-up, nail varnish and false nails are not allowed in school.
School Bag and Water Bottle
In Key Stage 1, the children must use the Hunstanton Primary book bag that is provided when pupils start the school. In Key Stage 2, pupils’ school bags need to be appropriate size to carry their books and equipment. The school has limited storage space for bags. School bags featuring inappropriate images, slogans or phrases are not permitted. The school will not be liable for lost or damaged school bags. Pupils are provided with a book bag when they start school in reception.
All children should bring a full water bottle into school every day; this can be refilled by children whenever necessary during the day. Water bottles must a sensible size with a screw lid and be labelled with the pupil’s name.
Non - Uniform Days
On set days, pupils can wear clothes of their choice. However, we ask that these still fit within what would be seen as suitable and sensible for school, most notably: not strappy shoes, heels or sandals which are unsafe for play, nor crop tops, which are not appropriate or sun-safe.
After School Clubs (Competition - School Kit)
Any suitable clothing can be worn for after school sports clubs, although Hunstanton Primary kit is preferred. If a child is representing the school in an inter-school competition or festival, they should wear the school designated kit if provided.
